Our Theme-Of-The-Week is...Music!
This is a fun opportunity to expose your kids to
different kinds of music - to listen to, play/create and sing along
to.
-
Try a different kind for each day of the week;
Jazz, Rock, Classical, Pop, Country or Rap - just make sure the lyrics
are okay for kids. Talk about what you like about each kind each
day and at the end of the week, discuss what everyone's favorite is
and why.
-
Buy some toy instruments and try to play along to some
favorite songs or the radio (this can be hilarious).
-
Make some instruments:
-
Guitars (elastics stretched over Kleenex boxes make a
nice "ping" sound when strummed - attach the Kleenex box to a stick).
-
Maracas (add beans or rice to pretty much any
container, add a lid and secure it tightly with tape or glue if
needed).
-
Drums (many containers flipped over and hit on the
bottom with a stick will make a great sound; use lots of
different containers for lots of different sounds).
-
Air blown into a bottle makes a great sound too.
-
Let the kids see what other things around the house
make a sound that could be used for a band (even tapping on the floor
is music if you do it in a rhythm - let them be creative and open
their minds up to different ideas).
-
Its also fun to sing along to music. Little ones
may enjoy CDs that have the classic songs like "Mary Had a Little
Lamb" and "Old MacDonald" etc. Older kids may enjoy introducing
you to their music favorites; have some fun singing along :).
Let your imagination run and take your children's
personalities and skill levels into account. The name of the
game is fun and silliness - and a little learning in there too is
great.
